SOUTH AFRICA – PROTOTYPE TESTING
We call it a Week - At the beginning of this year, we packed our bikes with our first Ambit prototypes and left snowy Bavaria for a summer in South Africa. For a whole week, we tested our components on the world-famous trails around Cape Town.
Swen, Head of Ambit, who lived there for over 11 years, showed us the best locations for the upcoming product tests.
HELL SEND
One of the most famous parks on the scene when it comes to MTB and South Africa is Hell Send - Dark Fest. In addition to the massive jumps that you know from numerous videos, the park also offers a sick downhill line through a small forest, a dirt compound straight out of a picture book and more flow lines. The craftsmanship of the trail builders makes this place an eldorado for mountain bikers. We didn't want to get off our bikes from the first to the last rays of sunshine.
JONKERSHOEK
Wild baboons and the five most venomous snakes in South Africa live in Jonkershoek National Park. A rugged, unspoilt landscape with a selection of massive single trails – that's what you get when you get on your bike in Jonkershoek. Pure Africa and trails that really get you going. Bennet, the head shaper of the trails, took us to the best places. Jumps, stonedrops and rough sections – our prototypes were able to prove themselves here in the test.
PLASIER
Our photographer Marco will definitely remember the location. During the hike to the trails, he had to flee from a Cape Cobra (one of the most venomous snakes of its kind) in full sprint. Besides cobras and vines, the location definitely has one thing to offer - jumps and berms that demand everything from you and your bike and promise pure action.
G-Spot
Probably the most famous trail in South Africa is like a roller coaster. This location is right on the outskirts of Stellenbosch.
Here you can find out what a G-spot is. Be warned, it's addictive!
Our conclusion: Four unique locations, successful product tests and nice rides around Stellenbosch –
what a week for our Ambit team!
